CYBER-SECURITY
They say, “Prevention is always better than cure” ; is quite a wise statement, not only in healthcare but also in cybersecurity.
Why?(you have no idea!)
Say, you have two options to be safe from hackers (only two!!), one is to respond early and have a protection for your system before hand. The other option is to respond only when attacked and then remove the attacker.
What will you choose?
Survey says, the first one! I know I know somehow you are the one rotten
apple in this basket, and you went for the second one, but is it worth
risking your data for not having the required security beforehand?
For a normal human the answer would be NO!!
Why undertake the risk of loosing your super personal data to those viscous
looking hackers? Wouldn’t you like to immediately slap the hackers in face with
your anti-virus instead?
Wait... You probably don’t know what an Anti-virus is, do you?
What is an Anti-virus?
An anti-virus is a software, which detects malicious software (Virus, malware, spyware, etc.) on your system and quarantines or kill them to safeguard your system. It also protects your system from any infiltration.
Now, let’s not get drifted away. So hopefully you agree that having security before robbery is the better option rather than calling security during robbery.
So, let’s talk about how to fight in cases in which you had no security and got scammed. (Why this first? Personal experience)
In Case of RANSOMWARE:
1. Immediately install an anti-virus (I personally recommend bit-defender), and let it run it.2 Let the antivirus catch the malware and remove it.
3 Go to Task Manager and end any suspicious looking process and disable any suspicious looking startup program (YOU PROBABLY DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THAT... have patience I suppose).
4. Go check your files’ extension with which they have been encrypted and search the net for possible trusted solutions.
5. You will likely encounter the process of deleting the malicious software from your system’s registry, follow it carefully!! (I am not showing here because those guys are professionally trained, and they know far more about tweaking the registry than me)
6. Go find a decrypting software for your encrypted files, there are many available.
7. DO NOT DELETE ANY NOTE BY THE SCAMMER, it contains some ID which helps the software decrypting your files.
And if you are lucky, you will probably safely escape this mess. If not (like if the scammer used an Online ID), then there’s no way one can help in such case, this is the risk factor which I mentioned earlier.
The Case of unwanted Money withdrawal:
1. Suppose you wanted to investigate your bank account after giving your account details to a sweet lady on the phone who claimed to be from the bank and needs it for security purpose. And you find your bank account looking nice and shiny, COMPLETELY CLEAN!! Not even a single piece of paper found.
2. In such case, you should probably hurry towards the bank associated with your account and inform cyber-police about it immediately (there is a certain time limit, so better hurry).
3. The bank will deactivate your account (if it's your will) and will not provide the loss that occurred to you, instead the cyber police will catch the culprits to get your money back. And then you can also meet that sweet lady you talked too!
Although this is successful and your account is now dirty with lots of papers, there still are risks involved.
Virus infiltration
Wow, your computer is automatically performing task, without your instructions, your main desktop has also been cleaned. What a super computer!!
Sorry to burst your bubble but your PC don't have the required adrenaline installed in it to make it a super computer. So panic, why ? Because I am going congratulate you on your successful installation of a virus on your pc.
Since we know the cause of it from previous blog, I will just give the solution here:
- Be calm (Don't mind my previous statement)
- End the process in task manager, you know how to open it ? Wow that's...Alright here you go :
Right click on your taskbar and select task manager (Patience pays).
- The next thing, is to open your anti-virus and let it run and find any other mishappening on your dear PC.
- If the issue persists contact a technician immediately. You can't do anything on your own if your anti-virus isn't helping. Best to go to the doctor directly rather than trying anything else from the internet and delaying the process.
- Mind your own business. Don't click ads on websites. Easy, I have no doubt that you will Not follow this advice. Hopefully not.
- Don't surf too much. Just stick to your work. This is also very easy.
- Visit only trusted websites. How to identify one? Well a browser always informs you about it. So watch out!
- Don't pickup an unknown number if it seems suspicious.
- Don't go on giving your credit details to anyone. Remember, NEVER SPEAK YOUR CREDIT CARD DETAILS, they are only for reading in mind.
- Avoid downloading cracked software. Just a question.. How many of you have a legit Windows OS? I guess that explains it.
- Have an antivirus installed. Download trusted ones! Like Bitdefender!
- Have a backup of your data.
